Brain dead

Yes. I. Am. Brain. Dead. I. Can. Not. Think.  I. Am. Totally. Blank.

Ok, maybe not that much.  There is only one thing that makes me feel like my brain has been fried.  MATH.  Oh, that word makes me shudder!  I am horrible at math.  It takes forever to explain things to me (thank you, Momma, for having patience!).  Then, by the time she is finished explaining one thing, I have forgotten the other, so we have to go over it again. I don't know what it is, but try as I might, I just can't seem to retain it all..

Any way, off of math, please...  That is, or so I thought, the only thing that makes me feel 'brain fried'.  However, I discovered something new.

Researching.   As some of you know (because you were readers of Country Musings before I moved over here) we are making a Regency Movie with some friends of ours.   After deciding that we didn't have time to do it right now, we figured we could do it over summer break.  This would give us plenty of time to get script memorized, and possibly make more costumes (we had only one dress per girl..).

Well, I decided to do some researching.  A while back I had found a site that a woman had made specifically for looking at the different 'period correct' costumes of different eras.   She had a regency section (in fact, most of her stuff is Regency, so that is cool), so I ended up look over many, MANY things. Yikes.  Mostly it was trying to find details.  Little things you could do to change a dress, using very minimal accessories, or fabric. Such as the 'faux' sleeves.   These were long, gauze sleeves that would attach to your dress's original short sleeves.  Put these on during the day, take them off in the evening.  Voila.  'Two' dresses using a simple sleeve change!

I was trying to find a lot of these little details so that it would be as inexpensive as possible.  We don't have tons of money to spend on this (nor do we WANT to spend tons of money on this), so trying to be resourceful is essential.  As in the picture below.  You could make that tunic thing and wear it over a dress. Once again gives you two new dresses without using as much fabric.

Still, I hope I got all, or most, of the researching done this morning so I don't have to do that again.. *sigh*.  I do love the little fichu that Elinor wears in the neckline of the dress. It is feminine and modest, but gives the dress an intersting look.

On the brighter note, I figured out a beautiful song!  I was sending some e-cards to some friends, and one of them had the prettiest music to it.  So, after listening to it for a while, I sat down and figured it out. That was loads of fun. :-)  I love getting to learn new, fun, beautiful songs any time I can. That way, playing music doesn't get boring.. lol!!   Well, perhaps for you really good pianists out there, it is easy to keep learning new songs.  I only had a couple years in piano, just to learn the basics, before I stopped and moved on to fiddle.  So, .I can't just sit down and play some big song. It takes me a long time to learn it, first off, and then after I learn it and play it over and over... I get bored and start the whole process over again.  You may think, 'duh, that is what you are supposed to do!' but I guess I am weird. ;-)

So, how was your day?  What did you do today?

In Christ's Service,
Sarah

P.S.  I added an 'about us' page (under code name of Country Characters.. ;-). Please visit it and tell me what you think!!

Haha, I guess math can do that to a person! Hope your brain recovers from all the fractions, integers, and so on! :)

Brooke,
Hurray, another fellow math disliker! lol!

Oh, I know!! I am anxiously awaiting for it, too. ;)

Thanks for looking at the page. I had tons of fun coming up with it. Some of the stuff isn't true, but just adds a fun touch. lol!

Oh, so did you get a blog? I noticed before that you always had a link thing on your name, but now you have a blogger logo, too.. However, I can't see your profile. So, can you please send me the link, if you have one, so I can check it out?? :)

Shelley,
Thanks! I Think a good night's rest has me fully recovered and ready to face another day. lol! Thanks for the comment!

Sometimes, I really do not understand why people do not like math, because I love it. Being able to solve any kind of problems is my forte whether it is theological or mathematical. I guess it is a guy thing.

I wish I could help, because I have been able to help my sister out with her math homework. She hates math like you, and gets rather tired when I explain things to her. Usually, I have to explain it to her three or four times before she understands it. But, it is well worth it in the long run. Keep persevering at it. You will begin to comprehend it after continuous practice.

Also, one other thing. You probably think that people like me usually finish math homework quickly. No. I do not finish math homework quickly. I go through it step by step, so I understand it thoroughly in order that I may do well on the test. Most nights, I struggle through five hours of homework. But, I understand it, so it helps mightily in the long run.

So, persevere through it. Even though, it make take up a good portion of your day in trying to understand the mathematical concepts. You will be more prepared for when the test rolls around. :)

In Christ,
Joshua :)

Joshua,
Thanks for the comment and the encouragement. Yes, I bet it is hard to not understand why some people don't like math. I sometimes don't understand how some people don't like science when I LOVE it. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and my weakness just happens to be math. Every once in a while I get a problem that needs to be explained only once and it just 'clicks', but at other times I just can't seem to get it (or else I get it, but it still takes me while to do).
I don't mind working for a long time on it, not so much, any way. I only get frustrated that I can't just whiz out a math page. I did, in fact, used to think that people could do math pretty quickly.. until I was visiting with my 'math' friends (those who were good at math) and realized that they didn't take just 5 minutes to get it done. So, that was encouraging. lol!
Math is probably just another thing God is teaching me to rely on Him for help. I really couldn't make it through some days of math without God giving me patience! So, I try to look at it as a learning experience in two ways. ;)
Dad is really good at math, too, so I am really blessed. If I don't understand it from mom, I go to dad and usually somewhere between those two explanations, something clicks. ;)
So, I will keep plugging away at it and get it eventually. :) Thanks for the encouragement!

So, I take it you would like one, then? You don't have to be a good writer! Thank you for the compliment, but I am certainly not as good as a lot of other bloggers out there. :) I would read your blog!! =D Plus you can alway spost pictures, which everyone loves... :)

Love ya, too!

Ah Sarah, you SHOULD be thankful for a mother who is patient, speaking as a mother who is not very patient at teaching math. Poor Abigail! BTW, I'm sure the young ladies in the regency era had but a very few dresses anyway, so being resourceful with tunics, sleeve changes, etc. would have been right up their alley! Kudos.

Mrs. M,
Thank you so much! Yes, I am. I am SOOOO grateful for my wonderful, patient Momma!! :)

That is very true. Two of the girls in the movie are poor, so they won't need a bunch of dresses, but the other was a rich cousin.. so, she may have had more, but certainly not tons. I think we only want to add one or two more, just so that the movie looks more realistic, ya know? Still, I agree with you. :) Thanks for the comment!!
