Hey y'all! Another Typical Day on the Ranch post!
Yesterday afternoon my brothers and I were charged with a task: To run all the cows through the chute, get hair samples, put patches on them, and give them their dose of bug medicine.
No problemo. The cows are really quite gentle and work fairly easily. So when Dad gave us this task Sunday night, we were ready to go. The plan was to get up early and get started right away to get it done. We had two set of corrals that we were working cows: headquarters and 'up top' corrals. Thankfully, the guys had gathered all the cows that night, so we didn't need to worry about that in the morning (that seems to be the hardest part sometimes). Deciding we would work the house first, then come in for lunch, and head up top, we went to bed, figuring we'd want a good rest before the next day.
The day started out slightly later than we had hoped (as one of us, ahem, wasn't able to get to sleep until about 2am)... However, we decided we wouldn't let that stop us. Dad had headed into work already, and mom was getting ready to leave for her day in town to do some things. Josh fixed us egg burritos while I went over the plans again to make sure everything looked right. So far so good. I was rather excited about getting the hair samples. =)
As we were about to head out, a friend who leases some pasture with us came by to pick up some of his cows. So Josh and Mr. S went up top to get his cows while Caleb and I prepped everything for working the cows at headquarters. After making several runs back the house then out to the corrals, we finally had everything (not that there was a whole lot but we just kept forgetting things...) Josh got back right as we were about to start. Glad to see our third cowpoke, we met him half way to see how his morning had gone so far. He brought us bad tidings. The cows had either knocked open a gate, or one of them didn't closed properly and they were now scattered in two pastures.
Pause for great big sigh.
We decided the boys would go ahead and go regather the cows before the spread out much further and I would wait down at the house. They left and I decided that, instead of wasting time, I'd go start working the cows on my own. There wasn't a whole lot to do per cow, so I figured it would be fairly easy. Slow, but easy. I headed out, intent on my mission and getting at least a couple handfuls of cows done before the boys got back.
Lesson learned.
When I got out to the corral, I realized that the cows needed to be pushed from a holding pen into the alley so I could push them into the chute. May not seem like a big deal, but when you're trying to push a bunch of bovine, you need at least two people else they just run past you in all directions. I attempted to push them from behind, but that ended rather quickly when I realized I was fighting a losing battle. So, racking my brain for ideas, I finally came up with a brilliant idea that, amazingly, worked quite well. I then began the process of gathering them into the chute (much easier now that I was in a narrower alley!).
I had done three cows by the time the boys got back. Not quite the handfuls I wanted, but hey, it was a start. Once they got there, we all jumped in and got to the task at hand. Josh dosed them, Caleb put on patches, and I collected hair samples.
I will go into a bit of detail on how we did the samples.. It was really cool. I simply had to grab their tail, take a section of the longer hair at the tip, and pull upwards, against the 'grain' of the hair. This pulled the hair, roots and all, out in neat form. I then placed the roots in a clear sticky pad. These will be sent into a lab for testing so that we make sure the cows don't have any illnesses or some other genetic defect that will affect their calves.
As we were working cows, we enjoyed joking around with each other, laughing about 'inside jokes' (none of which needed explaining because we were all on the 'inside'), and liking how smoothly things were going... Guess we thought that too soon. Before we knew it, a heifer had decided she didn't want to go forward and had succeeded in turning herself completely around inside the little alley leading up to the chute. Lovely. Thankfully, though, we didn't need her to go head first, since none of the things we were doing required her head to be caught. However, it's always a little scary when they are in the process of turning around as they can get stuck... Not to mention that you simple stand there looking at her helplessly, knowing you can't do anything to stop her. Getting near only makes her more frantic. So we backed off, silently praying she wouldn't get stuck. She didn't and must have had an interesting time going through the line backward.
Another cow later on almost broke her leg in an escape attempt by trying to jump up and out of the chute. Brilliant idea, cow. What was I saying about our cows being quite gentle? ;-)
Other than those little incidents here and there, everything really did go smoothly. A couple times, when reaching to get the tail for samples, my hand met with 'wet stuff'... *sigh*. All I could imagine was Adrian Monk doing that... (if you've ever seen "Monk", you know what I'm talking about).
But then, I suppose that's why I live on a ranch. It didn't bother me too much (or maybe it's because of living on a ranch that it doesn't bother me... hmm...) You just have to keep going. No stopping to 'get it off! get it off!'... =) Yup, bonafide country right thar. =) Anyway, back to my story...
So, we finished the cows at the house and went inside for lunch at about 2:30. Finished eating and checking a few things for mom, then got ready to head back out. We took all our gear with us, drove up to the top corrals (takes about 5-10 mins to get up there). As we went to gather the cows, poor Caleb walked right into a metal pole/bar that is sticking out horizontal to the ground. It is part of a fence, but we haven't finished building that fence yet, so it sticks out... he's not the only one that has done that. Poor guy. He really hit it hard. After he recovered a bit, though, we joked about him 'walking into a bar' and tried to put on shocked faces... Yeah, that helped a little. He's such a trooper, though, and got right back to work.
We had done about 5 cows when Josh realized he was out of the meds he was giving the cows and had forgotten to grab the new container from the barn. So, we paused operation and headed back down. Worked out fairly well, actually, as the boys wanted to grab some protein bars from the house (don't know why they were hungry, though. It's not as if they were working really hard....). =)
On our way up, I had taken off my jacket, as it was getting a little warm. When I hopped out, I guess I knocked over my water cup and later, then it got a little windy and I needed my jacket, I realized it was soaked and wouldn't do a whole lot of good for keeping me warm. =P So my new routine of getting hair samples went from 'get them and stand in the open while I'm putting them in their sticker' to 'get the hair as fast as you can, rush back and hop in the truck to stay warm while you now put the hair in the sticker'. =)
During all this, we did have a couple times that some cows got out and we had to chase them around the pasture a bit... or sometimes we'd actually analyze the situation to see how we could outsmart the cows to get them back in. Usually that worked better.. lol!
And so, after a day that we had hoped would be a morning/part of the afternoon project, we finally got home at 8pm. However, dad was really sweet and went and got us Taco Bell so we didn't have to cook anything. =)
So that, my friends, is just another typical day on the ranch. Do your days look similar to this? (I've found most people's do, whether they live on a ranch or not).=D
Sincerely,
Your Ranching Friend Out in the Middle of Nowhere
P.S. Keep an eye out! I'm planning on doing a blog post of our recent trip to Montana (pics included!)

Will You Build a Life With Me?
I don't do a lot of topics about marriage because, quite frankly, I have zero experience when it comes to it. However, today the topic was brought up while we sipped on coffee with a friend. The boys were wrestling in the background and having nerf-gun wars in the midst of us as we talked on this serious subject. Must have made for an interesting picture.
This friend, mother of two boys, was talking about how the standard of living for her boys when they grew up and got married would be much more different than that of her and her husband's at the current time. We were all agreeing and it got me to thinking about it.
Quite honestly, I think that many young ladies in general are a bit spoiled. MYSELF INCLUDED! I'm most certainly not pointing fingers (or if I am, it's at myself). :-) See, we've grown up in homes where we each have our own sewing machine, or computer, or car, or whatever. Now, maybe your parents didn't buy those things for you, and in that case, then I commend you for making those sorts of purchases on your own. However, there are several things that we can allow ourselves to be spoiled in. We can buy clothing, makeup, hobby supplies, etc with our own money because we have no other purpose for it (except to put some by into savings, but we're not talking about that). The point is, we don't have to care for a family. We're not feeding six children, clothing them, and buying their school books. We're not making house, car, or insurance payments.
So, what is our expectation going into marriage? Quite honestly, if I were a young man, I would be rather intimidated by girls who 'had it all' because I would wonder if they expected those things on my low-income after we were married (I honestly have no idea if that's how guys feel, I'm just saying it from my perspective)
Now, before I go further, I want to share a bit of a story. Most of y'all may not know, but 9 years ago, our family moved from a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house into a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house. Quite a difference. Now, 9 years ago, I was a pretty bratty kid. Maybe not terrible, but let's face it, none of us are perfect, especially at a young age. Needless to say, I didn't have much of a relationship with my siblings, and moving into a tiny house where there was no space to 'get away' just about drove me crazy. That's where my lilac bushes came in (as most of y'all probably know about). In any case, it really stretched me. I had to learn to love those around me even more than I had before, to accept them for who they were and love them still. It was tough, but it certainly grew and matured me in a way that nothing else could.
Then, not long after buying the ranch, the mortgage business plummeted. My dad was a mortgage lender and, naturally, we felt the brunt of the economy's down slide pretty hard. We came very close to the bank foreclosing on us (as it was rather difficult making loan payments for the ranch when there was no money coming in). Living off of beans and rice taught us a lot. We had to live with the bare minimum. No 'pleasure' buying. No ice cream. No 'fun food'. Literally, the bare minimum.
But ya know what? I'm so very glad we went through that time. Not only was it an awesome testament of God's amazing power and love for us, but we, as a family, bonded together in an amazing way. We had nothing except God and each other to lean on. Our spiritual lives were strengthened as we learned to trust in God completely to provide for us.
However, one of the things that I look back on now, as a young woman, is that it taught me how to live with nothing. To be content with very little, and to make do with what I had. I honestly was so very thankful for that time because I feel that it has maybe prepared me a bit for the future.
If God sends me a husband, I don't know what our financial situation will be. I know that my husband will provide for me, but 'provide' doesn't mean that I'll get to buy lots of fun gadgets or clothes any time I want. Providing means that there is food on the table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our heads (whether it be a small or large roof!). What more do you really need?
So, as we were having this conversation with our friend, I was thinking about how our family grew together during that hard time with the ranch and I wondered how young, newly married couples grew together. No doubt, what strengthens them together is the fact that they stick together through thick and thin, that they trust one another and grow over the tough things, the rough parts in life.
"House Hunters" is a TV program I like to watch when I get the chance to. I find it extremely interesting to watch the different couples finding houses. The ones that drive me nuts the most are these young, newly married, or 'pregnant-with-their-first-child' couples. They can be the pickiest people alive! They are looking for houses in a budget of several hundred thousand, and that means they are going big and grand. One couple I remember in particular was looking at one house and didn't like the paint color. They were complaining about how they didn't think they could live in a house with that particular color on the walls.
I was flabbergasted. Really? You would be so discontent with a paint color, something so easily changed, that you don't want to consider that house to buy?? Really?
As Americans we are fed this lie that we deserve the best, when in reality we don't "deserve" anything. We can work and save for luxuries, but we most certainly do not deserve them. Yet so many young couples go into marriage thinking that they deserve the best.
When I think about "building a life" with someone someday, I don't want to expect that I will have everything that my parents do now. I want to 'build up', starting with the foundation. Although I wouldn't say that you 'can't' build a relationship when you have everything right off the bat, I will say that I have seen stronger relationships forged on very little.
Now, I won't lie and say I don't have a 'dream house' with the perfect kitchen and porch, or that I don't enjoy buying a cute shirt every now and then, because I do. However, I don't want to set up this expectation of my future husband to provide those things for me in our first year, or first half, even, or our marriage. In fact, I may never get those things, but ya know what? I could live with that. So long as we were happy, following Christ, and growing stronger together each day, then what more can I really ask for? And right now, I can be practicing that sort of thing by being content with my life right now. As it is that this very present moment.
And that, my friends, are just a few randomly put thoughts that went through my head today. What are you thoughts on the subject?

Too funny to not share...
I found this picture and I couldn't help sharing it. I don't know who did it, so unfortunately I can't credit where it's due.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. We didn't have church this morning, but watched an extremely convicting video. I'm hoping to post the video later if I can find it. It was just too good not to share, and I know I can't fully do it justice by telling it to y'all. So, you'll have to wait until I find the video. :-)
Other activities for today include finishing up some drama things (auditions are this Tuesday! So excited about it!), and basically just relaxing and resting. Resting from yesterday, that is. :-) We were up and out the door by 5:45 Saturday morning. Why? Because we are selling corn for a local farmer at a farmer's market in town. It was extremely HOT because we had to sit out on the asphalt in our parking space next to the trailer. I think we will be doing something else for shade next week! We'll be selling corn until around the middle/ed of September. Basically just for as long as the corn lasts. The nice thing is that we are doing this as a family, so at least we get to be together! Also, we are, thankfully, in the middle of a more 'easy going' cattle season at the moment. Just gotta make sure there is water in the tanks, and fences are still holding up.
So, what did your weekend activities include?

Sneak Peak of the Weekend
Alright, I have taken a few of my favorite pictures to share with y'all as a 'sneak peak/preview'. :-) I will probably have to do several posts of all the pictures... We took (well, mostly Becca took them) over 1,000 pictures. =D But, I guess that's how it goes sometimes! ;-) And in the digital age, you can snap pictures quicker than you can say 'cheese'. :-)
So, enjoy the pictures and let me know what you think!! :-)
So, there's your sneak peak! I hope you enjoyed it and want to see more.... 'cuz there's a whole bunch of 'em. ;-) In the next post I'll probably give you the 'tour' of the house (basically I walked through the house and took pictures every couple of steps...) The Attic (otherwise known as the "Princess Room") where we girls slept was especially neat! :-)
In Christ's Service,
Sarah
So, enjoy the pictures and let me know what you think!! :-)
My wonderful parents!

Do I look at home in this thing or what? It would be so neat to own one!!!
My 'amazing' photo... ;-) Actually, I thought it turned out pretty neat!

Just a Random Lil' Post about what's Been Going On
Yup. That just about sums it up. I thought I might drop in a say a few things. Many of you said you liked just my random 'daily posts', and I'm glad of it. :-)
So, what's been going on in the crazy life of Miss Sarah lately? Well, I don't think I've ever seen a busier July in my life. You know what we did for the 4th and everything, so I'll spare you the pain of having to re-read it again. This past weekend, though, we had our annual family reunion (on my dad's side). We didn't have as many of the family come this year, but it was nice because I was actually able to sit down and visit with someone for more than five minutes before someone else came up and wanted to visit too. So, all in all, it was very nice. Sadly, we had to cut the visit short because we have a wounded calf to take care of. Wounded calf? Yes. Unfortunately, our little pups decided to play tug-o-war with our calf. I'll spare disgusting details for those with weak stomachs. But, it wasn't a pretty sight. Both her ears are gone now, and she has a very wounded shoulder. She'll probably walk with a limp the rest of her life. Thankfully, she seems to be recovering well, but it will take a long time to heal completely. So, daily life consists of going out in the morning and changing her bandages (I will admit here that I haven't been able to help out with that yet... Right now it's too much for my stomach to bear. I know, a rancher girl with a weak stomach. What will come next....) However, though I might not be helping now, I might help later when the wound is more healed than it is now. =S

So, in that series of unfortunate events, I come to the next topic. My pup. Living on the ranch like we do, we can't have dogs that tear up calves, even if they meant it in play. At first we were so upset with them we were just going to put them down. However, after some more thought, we decided that they weren't really bad dogs. They were just puppies that hadn't had very good training (unfortunately we don't know much about dog training!). So, we put an add on Craigslist and a few days later, a nice family came and took Oreo. My little buddy. My shadow. I miss him a lot, but at the same time, I have to say I'm glad he's there and not here where he might get into more trouble (and maybe an accident where we couldn't allow the mercy of him finding another home). So, after we found another home for him, we decided to go ahead and keep Bandit. You see, we had 3 dogs: Sadie (a Great Pyrenees), Bandit, and Oreo. We've heard that if you have more than 2 dogs, they will start forming a 'pack' mentality and will end up doing more damage than good. So, we figured that we'd get rid of the two pups and then keep Sadie (mostly, I think, because she would be harder to get rid of...). Any way, after we got rid of Oreo, we decided to go ahead and keep both of the other two dogs in hopes that since there aren't 3, they'll behave better.
Moving on.... This Friday we are having a dance!! I'm so very excited and I hope that I can post pictures of it later. :-) Yesterday we went over to a friends house (their daughters and I are the ones who instigated this whole thing!) and learned some dances. Rather, I taught them the dances so I'd have a few more people who knew how to do it. It's going to be interesting because I'm calling the dances. So, we'll see how it goes! They'll either hire or fire me, in a manner of speaking. ;-) any way, I am SO excited. And yes, this sounds silly, but I already have my outfit picked out. The most swish-y skirt I had! ;-) There is, actually, a story behind why I already have my outfit picked out. However, I'll save that for when I post pictures. :-) We will be doing English Contra (or line) dancing. Like the one in the video below, and, if any of you have seen Pride and Prejudice, like the one that Elizabeth dances with Mr. Darcy and they have their famous conversation. :-)
Well, I believe that this has gotten long enough. I'll end it by saying that my littlest brother (though not to little now!) is going to be turning 12 in just 3 days!!! So sad to see him growing up, yet I'm proud of the young man he's becoming. :-) I'm going to try to do a special post for him later on....
And be prepared to see lots of pictures (possibly) as we have several other 'major' events going on. :-)
With that, I shall bid you adieu! I hope all my readers are doing well! Have you been doing anything out of your 'normal' routine?
In His Grace,
Sarah

However, I'll save that for when I post pictures. :-) We will be doing English Contra (or line) dancing. Like the one in the video below, and, if any of you have seen Pride and Prejudice, like the one that Elizabeth dances with Mr. Darcy and they have their famous conversation. :-)
(Isn't that just the most elegant dance you've ever seen? I totally love it! In fact, that's one we're going to do-or try to do! Oh, and the music is just lovely!!)
And be prepared to see lots of pictures (possibly) as we have several other 'major' events going on. :-)
With that, I shall bid you adieu! I hope all my readers are doing well! Have you been doing anything out of your 'normal' routine?
In His Grace,
Sarah

Valentine's Dinner Pictures
Hello! I'm sorry that I'm a bit late in getting the valentine dinner pictures up. I've been a bit busy as of late. :-)
So, Here ya Go!
So, Here ya Go!
This was my 'day time' outfit. We had drama, so I tried to be comfortable. ;-) I'm wearing a brown 3/4 sleeve brown shirt, a pink blouse, denim skirt, and cowboy loop clogs.
And for an extra, I wore my heart earrings that my sweet siblings gave me.
Sitting around visiting before dinner...
The lovely table, carefully prepared by our Chefs
A cute heart candle/plate set from my Grandma
Lovely Daffodils from my Aunt and Uncle..
My handsome brother (the picture doesn't do him credit.. especially since it did that weird cut off thing..)
Handing steak out through the curtain...
Peek-a-boo!
It was an absolutely delicious meal! We had Fillet Mignon (from our own cows, I might add, which makes them all the better), Potatoes for a Crowd (shaped into hearts), pear/grape/apple salad tossed in a creamy sauce, and a wonderful salad with an AMAZING dressing for our 'appetizer'.
Dessert was chocolate pudding with vanilla meringue on top. Very good!!! I'm sorry I didn't get any pictures of the meal. I happened to misplace the camera between the pre-meal pics, and then dinner.. I don't know what happened. Oh, and I forgot to mention that our dinner was served on some cute heart shaped plates!
I'm hoping to get some pictures of our first ever Top Shot Competition, and of a new project that Josh and I are doing (mostly Josh, though...)

Sarah

Pictures From Mama's Birthday
Alright! Here are some pictures from last evening! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures at Drama because I thought I'd left the camera at home. Then, when it was time to leave, I found the camera sitting happily in my purse. Argh. Oh well! I'll have to get some next time. :-)
So, the day started like any other birthday. Whoever is the birthday person gets to do whatever they want in the morning (within reason, of course) while the others fix up a nice breakfast. We kids usually stay in bed and read or something. Mom got up and did a few things instead.
We made Banana-Pecan pancakes for breakfast with bacon on the side. YUM! We enjoyed some lovely conversation with breakfast, then got ready to leave for Drama.
We headed out the door, grabbed lunch on the way, and made it! Drama practice went well. Lots of laughs and fellowship and encouraging one another. It's great. :-)
After drama, we went shopping. Boring. I don't really care for shopping! We got our groceries for the week and came home to dinner, already prepared, that Dad had brought home from a GREAT BBQ place in town called "Rudys". It. Is. The. Best! SOOOOOO good. They serve brisket. Oh. My. Words can't describe!!! And, since they won't, I'll let the pictures do all the talking! haha!

The birthday girl!
My yummy food. Potatoes swimming in butter, creamed corn, and BRISKET!!! with the famous Rudy's BBQ sauce!
Mom got a Pressure Cooker! She's been wanting one for a while.
Nana and Caleb
A terrible picture of me.... But, I figured I might as well share it. That way a picture of everyone in the family is in this post! ;-)
After dinner, we each take a turn telling the birthday person, in this case, Mama, what we like about her. I think it's a wonderful tradition. Often times we forget how many things we like about a person and focus only on the negative.. and sometimes that person forgets what they are worth! So, that is probably my favorite tradition for birthdays. :-)
Thank you to those who wished Mama a happy birthday here and on her blog. :-)
And! Happy February First!!

Happy Birthday to the Most Wonderful Momma in the Whole World!
I know that title might be contradicted by some of my readers as they will claim that THEIR mom is the best in the world. However, I still think that MY momma is the best. :-)
I want to wish you a very happy birthday, Mama! I love you so very much and you mean the world to me. You've always been there to talk to, help me with my problems, to laugh with me, to cry with me, and to bring me back to Jesus when I needed it the most. I so appreciate all the time you have spent training me up to be a helpmeet for my husband someday. The pains you have taken to teach me to cook, clean, and be a better woman. All the encouragement you have given me is priceless. You are so supportive of everything I do. You are always interested, never failing to ask how my latest project is coming along. And most of all, you have supported me with prayer. I really appreciate it!
I love you so much!!!!!!
Love,
Sarah Biz Biz.
Please go to Mama's Blog and wish her a happy birthday!
I'll be posting a longer post later on with pictures of the day and evening. :-)

You Really Want to Know What I'm Like?
Some of my readers really don't know who I am. So, I'm giving you an opportunity to see what I really am like. Don't worry, it won't freak you out or anything. In fact, you'll probably just get a good laugh. And you really won't know exactly what I'm like after reading this, but at least you'll get a glimpse of the crazy person that I am. ;-)
Go Here to read all about it! (That is my sister's blog)
I hope you enjoy!
In Him,
Sarah

Thoroughly Blessed
I think I am one of the most blessed people in the world. God has given me mercy SO many times. He sent His only Son to save a sinner like me who deserved nothing but eternity in hell.
He has blessed me with an AMAZING family. I really don't know what I would do without them.
As I brought some presents I had just wrapped to put under the tree, Caleb spotted one for him. He started teasing me, trying to get me to tell him what it was. He tried shaking it, lifting it so see how much it weighed, etc. Just like a typical little boy. :-)
Any how, I told him that I "hope you like it." He looked at me and said, quite solemnly, "Of course I'll like it because you gave it to me."
My heart was filled with joy. He is such a sweet boy. Really. One of the best things that happens around Christmastime is how he deals with all the gifts. Often times, the little guys can lose focus of why we are celebrating Christmas with all those gifts under the tree. Caleb, however, is more excited about what he got YOU than what you are giving HIM. It is truly a joy to see that selfless joy and happiness in him. His gifts are really special, too. Typically it will be little things, like a picture, or an origami piece that he did all by himself, or some other little creation of his. And you know what? I think those are the best gifts. They come from the heart with love poured into each gift. His enthusiasm as we open his gift is really sweet to behold.
I have my other amazing family members that I just have to tell about. First of all, my Daddy drove the icky weather this morning to get into town for a job interview. I know he probably would have preferred to stay home and get some much needed tasks done on the ranch, but he went in town instead. He is such an amazing provider, and the best midnight talker around! He's always willing to stay up until midnight to help me sort through my problems. :-)
Then I have my beautiful, selfless, beautiful, caring, beautiful, sweetest, and most wonderful Mama in the world! (did I mention that she's beautiful?) When going through some tough times in my walk with the Lord, she was right there praying for me. She has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. She was the one I always told my secrets to, the one who was there to offer advice when something happened, and the one who was always willing to listen to my problems, even if she's already in bed and ready to go to sleep.
My wonderful sister. Wow, there's so much!!!! For one thing, she just celebrated her 21st birthday!!! Can you believe it?? (don't worry, there's a birthday post coming up!) I certainly can't. We've had lots of transitioning in our relationship. Playmates, to young adults, to the best friends in the world. She's probably one of the few people who can put up with me, and still love me. Being able to share a room with her is a huge blessing in its self. For one thing, I tend to be the messier of the pair.. and she's there to remind me, gently, to pick up my side of the room. I think her organized living style is finally rubbing off on me, though! Then, she's right there to talk, giggle, and cry long into the night with me. She's got the wittiest sense of humor. It doesn't matter how hard I try to say something back to her, she's always got one to top it... and you know what, I don't mind! Besides, I probably wouldn't be able to get anything said any way because she usually has me doubled over in laughter with the things she says.
Joshua is a pretty great kid. Ok, maybe not great.... Just kidding! And I don't think I could call him a kid any more. 16 years old sounds more like a young man, and since he acts more like a young man than a kid, I think he is entitled to that title. ;-) He is SUCH a hard worker. He would prefer to be out working than inside doing anything else. He makes me laugh when I'm upset, and loves me for the crazy person that I am. He loves talking to me about guns, fight scenes in movies, and how to fix a car (most of it, I don't typically understand, but I enjoy listening to his enthusiasm on the subjects.). He is my favorite Joshua in the whole wide world!
Of course, I said a few things about Caleb, but besides his selfless attitude during Christmas, he is one of the funniest guys around. Somehow, turning 11 made him into this very witty person. He and Becca could almost compete in a 'witty' competition. He comes pretty close to hers. He is super creative. He will bring out his clay creations and totally amaze me. One time he made all the characters from a Wii game called Mario Kart. The accuracy and detail totally stunned us. He's a great artist, loves his chickens, enjoys being outside, and has enough energy to run a steam boat across the Atlantic.
I know I've done these family posts before, but I think it's great to spend time telling about their good qualities. I mean, let's face it. Everyone as their 'bad side', and too often we can focus on just that instead of all the wonderful things about them. So, you will probably be seeing these in the future!
Are you feeling blessed this Christmas season? If so, how?
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas filled with the Lord's blessings! And, for those who want it, lots of snow! It has been snowing all day here. Just that lovely, soft falling, snow. Looks like a ranch-like winter wonderland!

Sarah

Thankful post #2
I'm afraid I haven't been on the ball with my thanksgiving posts! So sorry about that. Life got just a little crazy around here..... :-)
I'm thankful for:
~Understanding Mothers
~The comforting hug from your mommy (Yes, I still appreciate those!!)
~A wonderful sister who loves to make me laugh
~A daddy who makes me laugh
~Life lessons (yes, they're painful, but I know I'll look back later and be glad I learned 'em!)
~A "wonderful" conscience that will prick me when I've done something I shouldn't. Easier to mend your ways when you got a good one working!
~The busy week ahead
~A fun planned Thanksgiving day with family
~The blue sky up above
~Adorable puppies!!!
~A loving God who cares about me
~Inspirations and ideas for books
~Music
~Lovely letters from friends far and near
~All of the lovely comments I receive! You have no idea how much they make my day! :-)
Do you have something you are thankful for that you want to share? Leave a comment! I'm glad to hear from you. :-)

Happy 11th birthday!!
Wow.... eleven years gone by already! I just can't believe it! Where did time fly?
So, today we are celebrating my youngest brother's birthday. Caleb had a very interesting start in this world. His birth story is a miracle in itself, but the fact that he reached this age is also a miracle..... Ok, ok, it isn't that bad.
The day started out just like any birthday around here. The birthday person gets breakfast in bed. So, at Caleb's request, we brought him a bowl of Captain Crunch (couldn't believe he would pick that over traditional monkey bread, but then... he is a unique person!). Lately, Caleb has been asking for a Parakeet. He really wanted a little pet bird.... and, he really thought he was going to get one, especially after Mom and he looked up Parakeet stuff online! But, after going shopping one day, we told him that we had 'not' gotten him a parakeet. Although I could tell he was slightly bummed, he smiled anyway and said, "I'll be happy with whatever I get." So sweet!!
This morning we got up and wrapped his presents. Mom and Dad got him a jump rope. Becca, Josh, and I got him... bird seed, parakeet treats, a cuttle bone, and some little toys that go in a parakeet's cage. When we served him breakfast in bed, we only gave him the jump rope. We sang, got pictures of him unwrapping, etc. Since it was cereal for breakfast, he didn't get to EAT it in bed... we made him come out to the table.....
When he came out, he found-much to his surprise!- five small gifts, sloppily *ahem* Neatly wrapped on the table. The surprised look on his face was so cute! As he began unwrapping each one, his expression became more and more puzzled. Finally, he opened one that said parakeet something or other. His eyes lit up, then teared up as he looked at his and said, "You DID get me a parakeet!" He was so happy! It was really fun to see him get that happy about something.....
And then the next thing happened.... we were eating our cereal, but Caleb was just sitting there. Mom kept telling him, "Hurry up and eat so that we can head into town to pick out your bird!". Well, he couldn't eat. Why? He had a loose tooth that was just about to come out and it hurt to chew! Poor guy... so, for about five minutes he sat there watching us enjoying our breakfast. hehe. And then! *POP* out it came! So, he had a couple of special things happen to him today. (I will post pictures of the day later on or tomorrow...)
Now I get to do the fun part. It is tradition at our home to, after eating the birthday supper, go around the table and each person gets to say what they like best about the birthday person. (Yes, we even do this if we have company, so beware on what days you come over! haha!) Although I will get to say these tonight, I want to share a few with you.....

Those, of course, are only a few words that describe Caleb. One of my favorite things, though, are his hugs. He is a GOOD hugger. I love hugs. If I am ever sad or upset about something, I can be sure to get a goo hug from Caleb, along with some comforting words.
He is an amazing helper. He works hard, doesn't mind helping, and keeps up a good conversation.
He loves to laugh... and boy is that laugh infectious! Once he starts laughing, just about everyone else starts laughing, too! And His smiles a beautiful. They display such joy that comes from deep down.
Then....he is a joker. Caleb LOVE to joke and tease. Sometimes it can't get a bit interesting, but it is so much fun to have some little joke going on all the time.
Caleb is very animated, so his storytelling always is SO interesting and funny. He expressions are hilarious and his mind is a quick worker, jumping from one subject to the next.
He is an amazing piano player. He has an extremely good ear. He can listen to a song from a movie or something else and then go and pick it out on the piano. He has also composed several of his own beautiful songs.
Caleb is very kind and caring. He loves animals and is gentle with them. He takes good care of his chickens and will do a good job of taking care of his Parakeet.
Now, I could go on, but people are tugging at my sleeves anxiously wanting to go to town! So, I had better close. However, if you don't mind, please drop Caleb a birthday note in the comments section. He will really appreciate it. :-)
