Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

For Rebecca's birthday, she requested that we go and see the new Narnia movie, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

After the disappointment of Prince Caspian, we were a little skeptical, but tried to hope for the best.  We were truly surprised.  Voyage of the Dawn Treader turned out much better than I expected! They actually kept to the book fairly well (maybe added in a few things, but they weren't too out of the story line).  Apparently, after Caspian was released, they got a lot of complaints from Fans.  So, they straightened their act and did a MUCH better job on Treader.  It was actually very fun to watch.  They added lots of humor, but there are a few scary parts, so I wouldn't recommend it for younger children.

They had some very good themes in the movie that I don't really remember in the book.  Lucy struggled with wanting to be prettier than she really was.  She had to learn that she is just how she needs to be.  Edmond struggled with wanting to be over others and not be told what to do.  He had to over come that as well.

I must say that my favorite character was probably Eustace. Not because he is that great of a character (though really, it is fun to see him change into a better person) but because they did a GREAT job depicting him in the movie. Whoever the actor was did a wonderful job.

I hope that they get a big response from this movie (in a good way) to encourage them to make the others follow the books!  Douglass Gresham wants to do Silver Chair next, so I hope to see that one coming out in the future.

Liem Neeson (the voice of Aslan) was interviewed about the movie (or one of the movies) and, sadly, said that Aslan just represented God, Budda, Mohammed, etc, instead of just the One True God.  Gresham, however, was bold enough to get up and say that, no, Aslan represented God and God only.  Besides, Budda didn't rise from the dead and neither did Mohammed (Good for him!!).

All in all, I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend that you watch it, too!

In Christ's Service,
Sarah

We saw it the first day it came out and it was great! No as good as the book, though. :D

Hm. Interesting. I had a chance to go see VOTDT - but I opted to go see Tangled instead. :^)

I'm glad you liked it!

Hi Sarah,

Glad you enjoyed the movie. I personally prefer the old BBC version of "The Chronicles of Narnia". It's definitely more younger-child friendly and charming in a more innocent way than the new version. Nowadays, so many people are ADD-like and require all that crazy action and special effects to keep their attention, so it may not suit some. But I love it, and so do my young children. If you do check it out one day, let me know what you think.

God bless,

Lady Kara

Hmmm. I guess we'll have to check this one out. I'll be interested to see just what additions (and subtractions) were made. I've heard they added something about green mists and magical swords or something. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Too bad we couldn't go and see it in theaters with you...

Anna Katherine,
Yup, can't beat the book, but at least they stuck to it pretty well. :)

Atlanta,
Tangled looks really cute! I want to go see it, maybe when it goes to the dollar theatre!

Lady Kara,
I have heard of hte BBC but have never seen them. I would like to, though, as I am sure they actually stick to the books much better. BBC is really good at that!

Ink Slinger,
Yes, it would have been fun to have you there with us!! too bad it didn't work out.. Yes, they did add some green mist stuff. It was the evil that came from the Evil Islands (or whatever those islands were called.. the ones that make your dreams come true?). In the movie (spoiler alert), they have to get all of the nine lords' swords on Aslan's table in order to stop the evil mist and get rid of the evil islands.. I don't remember that being in the book, but oh well. :)

How funny, we are kinda the oposites. I think I prefered Prince Caspian to the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But you are right... Voyage of the Dawn Treader follows the book a lot better. I guess what irked me about the Voyage of the Dawn Trader was that they added the green mist and the magic swords, instead of folling the book for ttheir actual mission... to drop someone off at the edge of the owrld, pick up the other lords, and go back to ramundi's island to wake up the other lords....

All in all i would have to give it a four out of five as well

I thought they did a lovely job and I am a purist. While there were changes-additions and ommissions- they truly captured the maic of Narnia! I definitely want to see it again and I hope they make the next (SC) one soon!

(I did cry at the end.)

I completely agree. VOTDT did turn out better than PC, but LWAW was the best of them all, in my opinion.
