It is rather bittersweet, writing this.... All my sweet followers (if you do indeed still follow this little blog) I thank you for your years of reading. It has been fun. Almost 10 years of writing on this dear little speck in the blogging world. Unknown to many, but known to the few that have been faithful in reading.....
Ok, enough of the sentimentality. Yes, things do come to an end. Yes, I'm ending this little blog. Well, not ending, I guess... but this leaf I'm closing. Getting a knew one... however that saying goes.
Through The Lilac Bushes blog has been a lifesaver over the years. It has helped me write out thoughts on so many things -life issues, biblical standpoints, randomness, etc. Its been good. However, my life is carrying me onto a new adventure.
1) I'm starting a new blog.
Yes, I could have just updated this like I originally planned... but then I got to thinking and I decided, I think I need something entirely new. Totally fresh. I need this new start. Sounds insane to some, but to me it made sense.
2) It's still very similar to this blog
yes, I'm going to still be around on this vast internet world. In my little corner... but a new corner. And yes, I'll still be me. This is just the 'new me', to some degree. I still want to blog about life, deep thoughts, adventures I go on, etc.
3) It's not on blogger
Yes, indeed, this new blog is over on WordPress! Again, back to the 'new me thing'. I needed something absolutely different and fresh. I'm super excited about it and the plans I have! Who knows how many years this little guy will see me through! Hopefully many.
So, farewell to this sweet blog. It's been a grand ol' time. I look forward to still perusing back through you every now and again. Probably do some old links back and forth. (so yeah, not deleting you entirely just yet).
Now. Come visit me at the new place! I'm excited to show you around. =)

A Sneak Peak + An Update!
I know it has been FOREVER since I've posted on here... I do apologize. Life has pretty much taken me on it's... something. I can't think of the right term. In any case, life has been extremely crazy. I promise I shall give a much better post, but for now I just thought I'd jump in and say "DRAMA PERFORMANCE TONIGHT!!!" I'm SO excited... and EXTREMELY nervous... and yes, I like used my CAPs... ;-)

Excitement is Mounting!

I decided I'd pop over and talk a bit o' Drama. Y'all know I can go on and on about this subject. I'll limit myself, though, and just show a few pictures and talk just a wee little bit. ;-) Ok, I lie. =DSo, as most of you know, our ABC drama group will be performing Pride and Prejudice this fall. I'm really looking forward to this performance! It will definitely stretch the actors in many ways, but it will also be a neat experience to pull off.
This year we actually had true auditions. The director and assistant director (as well as the panel of judges) had to pick who would be in and who could best play each part. It was an extremely difficult bunch of decisions. One that went with much prayer and thought.
The cast has now been picked, the script is almost ready... yes, almost ready. The director couldn't find one that she liked, so she just decided to write it herself. Needless to say, it has given her a deep respect for stage writers! It has been quite the undertaking.
We have our first practice tomorrow. This is one of my favorite days of the practices. It's fun to get settled in, so who all is in the play, and catch up with everyone after the long break in-between semesters. :-) (and yes, we have to do it the first week because otherwise we don't get to later... we have work to do!) ;-)
So, I'm going to post a few pictures of the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice (my personal favorite!!!) starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. They did a stupendous job in this movie, and I love being able to watch their acting skills.
Before pics, I guess I'll share a bit of a back story. Ever since I have seen this movie (which was when I was about 10-11) I have ALWAYS wanted to be Elizabeth Bennet. I was determined that I would go to Hollywood, waltz right in, and get to play that star role in the newest edition of the story. Well, the Lord hasn't exactly called me to be a Hollywood actor... probably better that way. I'm afraid I wouldn't fit in. =D However, He did bless me greatly this year, by allowing me to get the part of Elizabeth Bennet in this production. I'm very excited, yet also getting a little nervous as I realize the big responsibility and task I have before me. However, I also know that so long as I do everything to glorify Him, the Lord, then I cannot fail. (but it's still a little scary to think about!).
Anyway, on with the pictures and introductions. So pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea, and settle in.... :-)

Introductions made, I shall now fill you in on the rest of my acquaintances...
Charlotte Lucas- my best friend who I can have any conversation with.
Lady Catherine de Burgh- the rather overbearing woman who will one day be my aunt!
Wickam- the man who willfully, charmingly, and wittingly deceived us.
My Uncle and Aunt Gardiner. They are favorites of the family and on my mother's side of relations.
Mr. Collins- He is our cousin who will inherit the house when Papa is dead. He is also under the patronage of Lady Catherine.
Col. Fitzwilliam- The kind-hearted, lively gentleman who's wonderful conversation I enjoyed very much. (he is actually one of my favorite characters).
My dear sister Jane... I can share everything with her. She is so sweet and never things ill of anyone, much to my chagrin at times! However, our respect and love for one other never changes and we share in each other's sorrows and joys.

Bingley and Darcy are very good friends. Bingley respects his friends opinion and is often swayed by it.
Sweet Georgiana Darcy. She will be my future sister- of which we are both very glad!

I really didn't like him at that moment.
Balls and Assemblies are such wonderful entertainments! Though, I was rather upset that I had to dance with the proud Mr. Darcy in this one.
Sweet Jane and her lovable Bingley. They love each other so much, you can't help but smile when you see them together. My father thinks they are so benevolent that their servants will cheat them- but my mother was quick to remind him that they had such sufficient funds that they would never run out.
And so, you have had a quick introduction and peek into my family. I hope to share some 'real' pictures of the cast and practices as we get closer to performances! :-) For now, farewell!

Ever Wonder if You're Going to Get Back to 'Normal'?
At this moment, it really feels like my life is never going to see an easy, normal pace again. I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Literally. Yet, God is good and I know that He has a plan... I just sometimes wish that He didn't know I could handle so much! ;-)
So, what have I been up to? Well, I've posted before that I'm going to be selling my children's book at our annual Home school convention. Thus, book publishing, working with my cover design guy, and getting illustrations put in have pretty much consumed my life.
However, though it has been stressful, it has been such a blessing as well. I'm so very excited to see it all in print. I'm giving a quick sneak peek as to what it is looking like so far. Just a bit of the inside and a few of the amazing illustrations that my mom has done....
So, what have I been up to? Well, I've posted before that I'm going to be selling my children's book at our annual Home school convention. Thus, book publishing, working with my cover design guy, and getting illustrations put in have pretty much consumed my life.

The illustrations are COPYRIGHTED! Please don't steal them. :-) My mom worked super hard on them and I think they turned out amazingly!! (Yeah, probably not a real word.. but it describes it well).

I do have a prayer request... the publisher that I am using is a 'print on demand' company. This means that if I'm third 'in line' for orders, I have to wait my turn. My New Writing Blog
I know that I've posted links for my Wordpress writing blog, but, due to a few 'tricky' things with publishing a book, I've decided to get a different site. I know it sounds confusing, but it's mostly so that it matches up with my business email so I don't confuse folks too much. :-) Hopefully that paragraph didn't confuse my readers...
I will more than likely not use my wordpress blog any more... I might go and post just for sentimental reasons, but I'm trying to transfer it over to my new site. I am using Blogger again just because I really liked that HTML format MUCH better than Wordpress. Easier to navigate and whatnot. So, if you'd like any updates on my book publishing, want to read tidbits of my stories, then you can go and check it out here: www.bookwriter451.blogspot.com. Really original name, 'write'?? =P
It's still under a bit of construction, but I'll be adding new pages and posts as often as I can. Awkward and Awesome!
Howdy friends!! It has been quite a while since I've been on here. Feels like I left for a long vacation and have finally come home.
Well, to give you a very brief update, life has been very hectic around here as of late. I'm trying to finish up my book for publication, taking care of premie calves, reorganizing the porch/house, trying to get some sense of order in my daily schedule, teaching fiddle, etc, etc. Yes, life keeps going on and on sometimes. However, I have been enjoying it, in a sense, because I like to stay busy.
So that's my life in a nutshell at the moment. I'm hoping to get some more posts up soon... But, before I do that, I finally came up with enough awkward and awesome moments to do a post! This will be my official first one... =D
Awesome:
~Waking up at 5:45 this morning and stepping outside. I love that crisp, early morning air!
~Getting to spend an entire day with friends (who are more like family!! In fact, we pretty much call each other cousins)
~Having a cat sleep up on your shoulder at night. He keeps me warm!
~Waking up to snow on the ground. It didn't last long, but it sure looked pretty outside the window!
~Painting and redoing our porch. It is painted a light sage green, with a darker green accent. With the lovely furniture, it looks like something out of a BHG magazine!
~My amazing family!
~All the support I have received for my book writing. The deadline is drawing closer!! Eeps!
~Upcoming coffee dates with friends
~Hobby Lobby. Three cheers for standing up against the Government on the whole contraceptives!! Go give 'em your support, guys!
~A nice, hot cup of English Breakfast tea in the morning. I've weaned myself off of coffee and sugar. I figured it wasn't the best thing to have first thing in the morning.
~Actually getting my first A&A post up! This is pretty cool and fun!
~Calving season! I love all the new babies. What a picture of God's miracles!
~My new computer!!!
~An upcoming baby shower for a friend. Her singleness/courtship/marriage story is really neat!!! I wish she had a blog so she could share... perhaps I'll interview her someday!
~An upcoming wedding for another friend who also has a great story about the whole thing!!
~A surprise that involves things like this:
Awkward:
~Moments with a group of friends after someone's said something funny... we all laugh, then fall silent. Then, me being the goof that I am, I start laughing about it all over again and everyone just looks at me... yeah. Story of my life.
~Coming into the house after trying to teach a baby calf to nurse and your sister telling you you have cockle-burrs in your hair. Um, not really sure how they got there.
~Quickly heading out the store and, after wondering why people are staring at you, you're sibling tells you that you have a smudge of soot on your forehead... Great.
~While training the calf, the cow begins going to the bathroom. You quickly whip the calf away and try to shield it from the splatter... then you realize that the calf could really care less.
~Standing in the alley way in the corrals sorting cows on a windy day. A really big gust comes and gets a bit of dirt in your eyes. While I'm standing there trying to get it out, not really knowing whats going on around me, all the cows run past.... oops.
~Going up to a guy you haven't seen in years (he's older by several years, by the way). You're surprised to see him at this certain place... in your shock you stammer out a hello and 'you're looking good'. *Smacks Head*. He looks at you for a moment, then quickly says something and takes his leave.
~Getting asked to babysit for Valentines day, but only if you're available and don't have other plans... Um... yeah.
~Being asked by a relative if you have any boyfriends yet or if there are any on the horizon. Trying to convey to her that you are saving that for one guy (and no, he won't be a boyfriend and you won't be doing dating) and not super interesting in dating lots of guys...
~The same relative wishing I would go to college and 'have some fun' (with a slight nudge in the side...) Super awkward. I think I've given up trying to explain to certain people that I really don't do that. They don't seem to understand, exactly...
This one was more of an Awkward/Funny.... Trying to teach your new violin student a song. When she arrives for lessons, her mother informs you that she doesn't seem to be getting this one note right. So, you begin working on it. Sure enough, the note sounds off... It's a C#, so you work on getting the fingers right, do scales, different techniques to get that finger in the right place. Lesson over. While the student is putting away the violin, the mother asks if I would play the song really quick so she can hear how it's SUPPOSED to sound like... as you play, you suddenly realize that it's a C natural... not a C#... thankfully everyone laughed about it.. :-)

Just Your Typical Day on the Ranch ~#3
I'm back for another 'Day on the Ranch' post! This was a really funny day because, in all honesty, I was really hoping that something 'interesting' would happen... ha, um not a good idea!
The day started out just fine- except for a funky stomach-ache that I had. The boys and Dad took the tractor and started cleaning all the grease off of it. Our tractor has basically been 'pouring grease' from some leak, but it's so dirty on the outside (grease and dirt mix really well to make an awful mess) that they couldn't get to the engine very easily. So, while they were busy power-spraying all of that nasty stuff off, Becca and I took the feed truck and headed out to pasture. Our mission, which we chose to accept, was to get all the cows brought down to the house corrals in order to sort a few of them off. We needed to get the bulls out, and some other cows, which had jumped fence, back into their rightful pastures.
The cows came easily (they do so love the yummy goodness that comes from the feed truck!), and we soon had them all in the corrals. Unfortunately, two cows that we needed jumped the 'low spot' in the fence, and went right back out to pasture. This was dealt with fairly easily because one cow was tame enough to just go back in. The other, which wasn't our cow but one that had gotten into our pasture, was extremely skittish and timid. As soon as we starting walking towards it, that cow high-tailed it out to pasture as far away from us as possible.
Josh came out to help us sort the cows, and we got that done fairly quickly. We pushed the bulls to a different pasture, and then loaded the other cows that needed sorting into a trailer to haul them up to pasture. They are cows of some folks who are leasing land from us, and they got into the wrong pasture.
(To those who might have read this earlier, somehow the internet didn't save the rest of my post. So, here it is, and sorry about that!)
After sorting, Becca and Josh hauled the cows mentioned above back to the pasture they were supposed to be in, while Caleb and I worked on getting that skittish cow in. After multiple tries with no luck, I remembered that always works, or at least calms you down: Prayer. So, I began praying that the cow would go in. Sure enough, there it went. I forget that God helps us even with the smallest things. So, lesson learned! =D
Caleb and I then hauled our cows back up to their pasture. Poor things, they had walked a lot that day! On our way back, we met Josh and Becca, also coming back from their trip. They told us that we had a leak in a pipeline that needed to be fixed. So, we went home and started gathering thing to fix it. Some young men that we church with, Mitch and Wes, ended up coming by. While Becca ran into town to pick up a few things for Dad, we went up to the tank. Mitch came with us, and Wes stayed to help Dad.
Once we got up there, we found where the pipeline was and started digging. We also found out that frozen mud is VERY cold and VERY hard to dig through. So, while Mitch chipped away at it with the ax, Josh shoveled, and I scooped water out. Kneeling in the freezing mud was no picnic, neither was dipping your hands in icy cold water. However, the task was finished and we began to fix the pipe... Oops, forgot the saw. So, Mitch and Caleb headed home to get it while Josh and I finished 'cleaning' off the pipe from all the mud.
Mitch came back and said he had a very distressed passenger in the truck. I looked over, and there was the cat, sitting calmly as you please, looking out at the new world around him. I guess he had jumped up on the back and got caught up there when Mitch came back up. In any case, he didn't seem too distressed, and rode very calmly all the way home later on. And, he still hangs out around the vehicles, so obviously he wasn't too traumatized by his experience. ;-)
After we got the pipe cut with the saw, we went to get the spare piece and realized we were missing the rubber seal (or whatever it was... once the guys start talking technical stuff, I pretty much feel like Captain America talking to Iron Man or Bruce Banner). So, we had to go home again, only this time we all went. It was way too cold to stay out there! Once we got there, I stayed home and cleaned up while the guys went back out to finish fixing the pipe.
Later that evening, the rest of the crew cleaned up and Becca, Josh, and I headed into town to meet with a friend to go and see 'The Hobbit'. It was a very neat movie and I really enjoyed it. Although, I found out that I can be very expressive during the movie... ;-) Lots gasps and sighs of relief, I guess.
Today while checking tanks and feeding, we found out that the pipe was broken again, and something else wrong with an air valve further up. So, tomorrow's work is cut out for us, I suppose! ;-) However, it makes for fun days with lots of adventures.

After multiple tries with no luck, I remembered that always works, or at least calms you down: Prayer. So, I began praying that the cow would go in. Sure enough, there it went. I forget that God helps us even with the smallest things. So, lesson learned! =D
Caleb and I then hauled our cows back up to their pasture. Poor things, they had walked a lot that day! On our way back, we met Josh and Becca, also coming back from their trip. They told us that we had a leak in a pipeline that needed to be fixed. So, we went home and started gathering thing to fix it. Some young men that we church with, Mitch and Wes, ended up coming by. While Becca ran into town to pick up a few things for Dad, we went up to the tank. Mitch came with us, and Wes stayed to help Dad.
Once we got up there, we found where the pipeline was and started digging. We also found out that frozen mud is VERY cold and VERY hard to dig through. So, while Mitch chipped away at it with the ax, Josh shoveled, and I scooped water out. Kneeling in the freezing mud was no picnic, neither was dipping your hands in icy cold water. However, the task was finished and we began to fix the pipe... Oops, forgot the saw. So, Mitch and Caleb headed home to get it while Josh and I finished 'cleaning' off the pipe from all the mud.
Mitch came back and said he had a very distressed passenger in the truck. I looked over, and there was the cat, sitting calmly as you please, looking out at the new world around him. I guess he had jumped up on the back and got caught up there when Mitch came back up. In any case, he didn't seem too distressed, and rode very calmly all the way home later on. And, he still hangs out around the vehicles, so obviously he wasn't too traumatized by his experience. ;-)
After we got the pipe cut with the saw, we went to get the spare piece and realized we were missing the rubber seal (or whatever it was... once the guys start talking technical stuff, I pretty much feel like Captain America talking to Iron Man or Bruce Banner). So, we had to go home again, only this time we all went. It was way too cold to stay out there! Once we got there, I stayed home and cleaned up while the guys went back out to finish fixing the pipe.
Later that evening, the rest of the crew cleaned up and Becca, Josh, and I headed into town to meet with a friend to go and see 'The Hobbit'. It was a very neat movie and I really enjoyed it. Although, I found out that I can be very expressive during the movie... ;-) Lots gasps and sighs of relief, I guess.
Today while checking tanks and feeding, we found out that the pipe was broken again, and something else wrong with an air valve further up. So, tomorrow's work is cut out for us, I suppose! ;-) However, it makes for fun days with lots of adventures.

Update Over at My Writing Blog
Hello Friends!!
I just recently updated my writing blog, so if anyone is interested in reading a small tidbit from a book I'm writing, be sure to stop by!
Also, I'm currently working on getting that promised video up over at our drama blog. We had our dress rehearsal tonight, which went fairly well. However, as our marvelous director told us, "If the dress rehearsal is awful, the performances will be wonderful." The reason being that everyone will go home and practice, practice, practice! :-) So, although our rehearsal wasn't absolutely terrible, it wasn't perfect either. So, I'm praying that the performances will go well, that everyone will remember their lines, and that the audience will really enjoy the evening. :-)
So, just popping in to say that real quick. :-) Thank you to those who have been praying that our performances will go well! They are always appreciated. God has blessed our group tremendously, and I think that it will go well. :-)

Yes, I'm Still Here... :-)
Hello readers who have been so faithful! Y'all haven't left, even though I haven't posted in such a long while.
Life has been rather busy as of late. Having just graduated (hoping to post some pictures soon!) has been a tremendous step in my life. It was so nice to see all the love and support of my many friends and definitely of my family. :-) Now that I've graduated, I can't wait to get my life 'organized' in the sense that I can get my schedule figured out, get really serious about my children's books, and begin volunteering at some places I've been eyeing. However, before I get to do all that, I must wait for one more week. Why?? Because our drama performance is next weekend!!!
I can't believe that this will be our fourth performance! It's very exciting. I will give a small spoiler and say that I get to play a villain! It's been rather fun, I have to admit. :-) Perhaps because playing her gives me some more flexibility to test out my acting skills and to really expand the character more than I ever got with playing the old ladies in the other two plays. In any case, she's been rather fun (perhaps because I get to also use a Southern accent and wear tons of jewelry??).
This semester we did a fundraiser to help pay for some of the expenses. It's amazing how much money goes into props, sets, costumes, etc. If anyone is interested in helping us out, you can go and check out our SUPPORT US page on our website. We're selling Entertainment books. This little book is filled with tons of coupons for restaurants, hotels, theaters, and even car rentals! If you go online to order, you can pick a book for your state. :-) (Ok, that was my little speel. =D). I'm hoping to get some video up on the website of some drama stuff, but we'll see how that goes. Unfortunately my computer editing program has NOT been working (which has been a huge frustration to me!).
It was a very exciting election this year because I got to vote!!! That was quite an ordeal to go through, but thankfully I was able to cast my opinion among the other folks. Sad to say that the outcome wasn't what I was hoping for, I'll be honest to say. However, I know that God has it all under control, and that this is just part of His plan, whatever it may be- and, believe it or not, that makes me rather excited. Excited to see where God is going with this. :-) Perhaps I'm just weird that way... ;-)
Other than life just going on as normal, there really isn't much else to tell... well, except for something pretty exciting, but I can't say anything about that just yet. You'll have to wait in suspense. :-) However, I won't make you wait very long, I promise.
Please do drop a comment and tell me what you've been up to! I've rather missed hearing from everyone... :-) Although, I have tried to keep up with your blogs if I can, although it has been difficult at times (especially when the internet won't work!).
Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely fall weather! I'm off to enjoy a movie with my sis and a nice cup of hot cocoa!! Yum!

And What Have I Been Up To?
Howdy! I hope that y'all, or some of you, missed my regular posts while the fashion show was going on. I've missed it a bit myself! So, I figured I'd pop over here and see what y'all were up to and say a bit about what I've been doing. :-)
First and foremost, I've been busily getting my children's books ready for publication. They're still in the editing process, but at least it's moving along somewhat. I currently have 4 written with a 5th one in the making. It's extremely exciting and frightening at the same time! I will be sharing a table with a good friend of mine at our Homeschool Convention this next year. She informed me a couple of days ago that the Board had approved us as vendors and that we were now officially getting a table. That was rather stunning news, but only from the side that reality hit me like a demolition ball. "Wow, Sarah, this is for real. You'd better kick it in high gear and get this done!". So, a little scary from that point. I guess that I've dreamed and prayed about this so long that it feel weird when it is actually happening. Oh, you should definitely go and check out Alicia's book on her website. It's really good and I definitely recommend it (if I haven't already!). She's currently writing up a second one, and will also have a 3rd book in the series. I'm looking forward to reading both of them! She is also selling on Amazon. She's got lots of neat things on her site, so definitely check that out!!!
Second, I've been preparing for my commencement (graduation) party. This has been SO difficult to prepare for... the biggest reason being that I couldn't invite every person I wanted to. My parents made me limit it to friends that I've either known for a very long time, or ones that have really been involved in my home school life. This was very difficult for me! I have lots and lots of friends that I would have liked to have invited. *Sigh*. In any case, it will still be nice with family and close friends. It's a rather big thing, for me, because I feel so unprepared for this next phase of life. I'm normally a very 'bubbly', happy-go-lucky person, but for some reason turning 19 and adding graduation on top of that has made me look at life rather seriously. I'm sure that's a good thing, though... ;-) Voting is a scary issue, too.... =P (oh, if you want to see a sneak peak of graduation photos, you can go to Rebecca's site HERE)
Third, I've been sewing and making costumes for two things. One is for drama... the second is... well, that's a secret for now. You won't get to hear about that until later on, but I'll let you take a few guesses if you want. :-)
Our drama performances are coming up here in November. for anyone interested, you can check out our new site HERE. We're having a fundraiser this year, so if you'd like to support us, please visit the site and click on the 'support us' link. Our first fundraising day is this Saturday, so I'll be sure to get pictures and post them on the site.
We've also been excitedly looking forward to the community chorus doing their Handel's Messiah again this year! This will be our 4th year to sing, and I'm really looking forward to it! I might even try out for a solo... but I'm still contemplating that. :-) So far it is just Becca, Josh, and myself who will be singing.. but I'm hoping we can get Dad and Mom to do it with us as well. Caleb isn't old enough yet, but maybe next year.
Other than that, we've pretty much been busy with just the normal things in life. Today we have been processing a BUNCH of apples. Some friends from church have a wonderful orchard, so we have bags and bags of apples to go through. They are really, good, though! We plan on making applesauce (we like the chunky kind!), and then freezing some for recipes. I'm not sure if we'll get around to making jelly (we're not too fond of apple jelly) or cider. I guess we'll see how far we get. ;-) Speaking of which, I'd better get back and start working again! ;-)
Oh, I'm hoping to get some hair tutorial videos up sometime soon.... If you have any requests, please drop me a line in the comment box, or in my contact page. :-) I'd love to be able to put up videos that I know you want to see!

Fashion Show Officially Closed
Hello ladies! Just dropping in to let everyone know that the fashion show is officially closed. Samantha and I are judging outfits and comparing scores. The stage is getting set to announce the winners!!!!!
We would like to thank each and every one of you who participated (whether you just read the posts, or if you actually entered some outfits). This was so much fun to do, and we're thinking we just might need to do another one sometime in the future. :-) Y'all have made it very difficult for us to pick the winners. Everyone did an amazing job on their outfits.
All winners will be posted over at Samantha's Blog. When she has posted, I'll post a quick update over here to let y'all know. However, I do encourage you to go and follow her blog, as I'm sure you'll enjoy any future posts that she puts up. :-)

Blogging Break

I am dropping in to quickly say that I will be taking a blogging break for the next couple of weeks. I'll be extremely busy with my temporary job at the fair, so I won't have time for blogging (much to my dismay!). Just an update

As far as an actual update goes, I guess there isn't much to share! We've been busy doing some cleaning and that's about it. The boys are showing their heifers at the fair this week, and that's probably the only exciting news (except for some other big news, which I will share in another post as it deserves a whole, separate one to it's self =D)

Just Your Typical Day on the Ranch ~1 (Part One)
Because many funny things happen around here (things, that is, that I consider funny), I thought I would do a little 'series', per se, and jot down the events for you, my readers. If this should prove to be boring, please let me know and I won't do them 'no more'. ;-)
For this first post, I'm going to share the most recent funny Ranch happening.
We raise cattle. That means we need water. We have 60 cows of our own, and 40 of a relatives on the ranch. That means we need LOTS of water. Cows can drink a LOT of water, let me tell ya. The network of water pipes going from tank to tank is probably rather confusing. Let me suffice it to say that several tanks can be connected to one pipeline/well line.
Sometimes we have to go and "turn off" one pipe so that water can go to the other tanks. We usually have to do this when we have bad pipes that are leaking, but we can't fix for various reasons.
Josh needed to turn on a pipeline so that water could get to some tanks. Well, the problem with turning this pipe on was that it leaked horribly. So, we left it on for a few days so those certain tanks could fill up. However, the other ones, which we had turned the water off from, were going dry.
(IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE NEXT PART OF "RANCHING 101", THEN SKIP TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH)
We needed to turn off the water, and fast... however, this turned out to be a big problem. Water pipes are 3-4 feet under ground. So, in order to enable us to turn them on and off, we use 'keys'- small PVC pipes with notches cut on the end. Sitting on top of the water pipe will be a handle that you turn to shut the water off (or turn it on). To keep this from being covered in dirt, we position another PVC pipe over the handle, sticking straight up in the air. This sticks up from the ground about 1-2 feet. The pipe lets us put the key into it and turn the handle for the water pipe.
The notches on the key sit down into the handle. You can turn it, and voila. Water on or off.
(FOR THOSE WHO WANTED TO SKIP THAT BORING PART, HERE'S WHERE YOU START READING AGAIN.)
In this case, however, the key wouldn't work. For some odd reason, we couldn't get the handle to turn so we could shut the water off.
One day, I was telling dad about my big plan to fix our very muddy road. He thought his was hilarious, as he figured we'd never be able to get it done (my plan was to do it by hand, and our road is VERY LONG). So, I promptly told him that I wanted to do something. I needed to get out and get some work done or I'd go positively crazy.
(Here's where he sprang it on me!) "Well, if you want to do some labor, you can go out and fix that pipe that's leaking." My Dad works a full time job, so his only free time is on weekends, and then it seems like something else always pops up that prevents him from doing the things on his 'to do list'.
"Ok, great! Give me the details on what we need to do." ('We' meaning Josh and I)
(Dad) "Well, you need to dig down to that pipeline where the handle is so we can turn the water off. For some reason, the key won't turn it. However, the water has been leaking all over the place, so you'll need to build up a little berm around the place you are going to dig so you can drain the water. Do that tomorrow (Monday) and on Tuesday, you can get up and dig it out."

Been wondering what's going on? (plus a prayer request!)
Ok, maybe I flatter myself by thinking that my readers even wonder if anything is up. However, I thought that perhaps they might have noticed that I didn't post a recipe for two Fridays in a row, and that last week's posts were rather disoriented.
I'm here to tell you that I have been rather busy. Ok, that is a lame excuse, I suppose... When I decided to do this whole shebang, I forgot that it would land right in the middle of cattle season! Whoops! So, my family and I have been a bit busy working cows, doing regular chores, and trying to do a decent amount of school work in our spare time. Yeah.
Just so you know, I won't be doing any of the "regular" posts this week. So, in other words- no giveaways, recipes, etc. I might do some of the interviews, but I'm still getting that all worked out. My sister and I realized that it would be a whole lot more fun if we had prizes for the winners of the photography contest. So, I've been trying to organize what I have on the list so far (of items to giveaway) and deciding which items to do as giveaways and which items to do as prizes. Doesn't help any when you come up a few short! Oh well, it will work out eventually, I guess! Sorry, I'm rambling.....
What you might see this week-maybe-would be a couple of posts that I've had laid on my heart to write up. If you don't see anything this week, then just come back next week as I get back into the swing of things for the LAST WEEK in our Photography contest. Remember that you've only got 16 more days-SIXTEEN- to get your entries in and spread the word! Thank you to those who have entered so far. It looks like it is going to be a pretty tough choice to pick winners! :-)
Alright, I guess I don't have a whole lot more to say. Off to 'hold down the fort' (it can literally become one with two brothers playing soldiers... ha, at least I get to be the General!).
Oh, please be praying for a dear friend of ours, Mrs. H. She just recently had her third little boy by C-section due to the fact that the baby just didn't want to come out. However, while the doctors were trying to get her baby out, they ended up cutting through her bladder (which had been flattened during pregnancy), pulled a baby through it, then had to do a 3 1/2 hour surgery on the bladder. So, needless to say, she's had quite the experience. She has two other little boys (aged 6 and 3). Both have missed their Momma. The youngest LOVES to snuggle, so he doesn't quite understand why Mommy can't hold him right now. Oh, and not to mention that while all of this is going on, she still has to take care of a little newborn. So, please keep them in your prayers. Thanks!
