Life.. ah, where to begin? It has been especially hectic over here for some odd reason. The oddest thing, though, is that one really can't put an exact finger on what we've been doing. We've just been busy.
Actually, I suppose I could recount a few things... For one thing, last Tuesday my brothers and I went swing dancing in Albuquerque. This group meets every Tuesday night. They do a lesson beforehand, and then free dancing time afterwards. It was a lot of fun and we learned some good basic steps. =) It was also really cool to watch those who have been doing it for a while really get into the dance. Some pretty good dancers out there! And the best part? My brothers enjoy doing it! =D Which means we got to come home and practice!
Friday I nannied all day, then went putt-putting with a local young adult group. We went out for some frozen yogurt afterwards and had a good time all around. Made some good memories and had lots of laughs.. =)
Saturday night we went to another dance, though this was an English country dance, so quite a bit different than the swing dancing, but still loads of fun! There were only a handful of guys, so I got to dance the guys part a couple times. Its really fun to exercise your acting skills by playing up the role. While I danced the virginia reel with a friend of mine, we had a very extended conversation about my recent 'hunting trip to Africa' and all that. She did marvelously to play along and I had a blast playing a posh old gentleman. =)
Other than that, we started landscaping our yard this weekend. Our poor front yard is so hard that it refuses to grow grass. So we finally gave up this year and decided to just do gravel and pretty rock. I think it will be much better this way.. more low maintenance, too, and since we already have about 6 acres around the house to keep up, it will be nice to not worry about the yard, too. We will grow some grass around the side of the house where our 'sitting area' is, just to add something green and soft and cool.
This Sunday, for father's day, dad decided he wanted to work more on the landscape. So we did that, then headed into town in the afternoon to go watch The Amazing Spider Man 2. It was pretty good, but I'll tell ya something... modern movies seem to focus more on filming cool action sequences and forget to do some character development. Not totally bad, but not totally awesome either, on that scale.
We went went to Rudys for supper, so really, it was a good day. Although, I was so tired this morning I really couldn't keep my eyes open for several hours after getting up... yikes. However, it was a great day to celebrate an amazing person. My dad is just... awesome. There's no other way to put it. He stays up until the wee hours of the morning talking with me if I have some big problem to figure out.. He jokes and teases with me. He gives the best hugs and shoulder rubs. He works really, really hard for our family. He is just amazing!
This week we have quite a bit planned, too. Busy, busy week. Most notably, though, are probably Monday and Wednesday. Monday I get to go to lunch with a dear friend of mine, and then on Wednesday we have our last filming day! Well, what should be our last! If all goes well, we will officially be done filming our movie and I can get on with the editing. Should be a fun, but crazy day. Going from 8AM to 8PM... yup. =) At least we'll feel like real actors... hah!

Convention Surprises
This past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were filled up. The CAPE homeschool convention was on! =) It's always a favorite time of year for me. Not only do I get to see friends and visit with them I also get to... well, see friends and visit with them. lol! Actually, it's a really great time to see friends, yes, but you also get to hear great speakers, see awesome vendors, and really get encouraged. =)
For the past two years I've had a table at the vending hall with a friend where we have sold our books. This year I wasn't as excited about it as I was the first year. I was disappointed that I hadn't gotten another book published and I was feeling a bit like a flake. Not only that, but I had a head cold, so I wasn't feeling all that great.
However, I got to convention, set up my books, started feeling a little excited about it, and settled in for a long weekend. When the first day ended with no sales, I was feeling a bit discouraged. However, I hadn't sold any books on Thursday of last year, either, so I figured it was just because mom's were looking around before they decided what to buy. So Friday dawned bright and early... way too early. I hadn't slept well, so I was feeling worse. With a somewhat bad start to my day, I was letting it affect the rest of my day. I only sold 4 books by the afternoon. I was feeling really discouraged. On top of that, I had a couple of people who weren't very nice stop at our table. Normally I would have been able to at least smile and try to encourage them (knowing they must be having a bad day or something). That day, however, I failed to be cheerful and let the bad moods of others affect me.
Saturday morning I woke up feeling a little better. I had been encouraged the day before by my wonderful mother, reminding me of my purpose and Who I needed to be glorifying. With her words in mind, I got to convention feeling much better. When I went to the exhibit hall to set up the table for the half day, I was greeted with a beautiful package, wrapped in newspaper (a writer's favorite!!) and a little note that read: "To Sarah Elizabeth, Authoress". No signature or any other indication of who it could be from. Inside was a beautiful journal and a homemade hair scrunchie. My curiosity was peaked to a high level. Who could have given that to me?
I inquired from friends, but no one really seemed to know. A few hours later, I stepped away from the table for a bit and, when I returned, my friend informed me that I had been left another package. This time it was a little bag of peanuts, some chocolates, and a note saying: "To Sarah, from ??" Now I was REALLY curious!! Who was doing this?? The Handwriting didn't match the other note, but if someone was trying to keep their anonymity, they certainly wouldn't use their own handwriting....
So I pondered over this for another hour or so before I left the table again to say hello to a friend. When I came back, my friend once again informed me that someone had dropped something off at our table. This time, however, there was a slight clue. The person who had dropped it off had simply tossed the note on the table, said, "The name's Paul" and ran off. The note was a folded up napkin that read: "Hey Sarah, I hope you sell lots of books today! =)". I scanned my brain trying to remember anyone I knew with the name of Paul. It came up blank. I really had no idea what was going on! A group of friends came up to the table and I told them about the new mystery. We all tried to figure it out for a bit... None of us had any ideas.
At lunch, a runner came up to me (for clarification, "Runners" are homeschoolers who have applied to help out at the convention. They kinda of have 'special' tasks like setting up, tearing down, helping vendors, etc, that other volunteers don't do, necessarily.). So a runner came up to me and said, "excuse me, ma'am, but I'm supposed to give this to you from Paul." It was a Dr. Pepper. I was totally floored. Not many people know that I *really* like Dr. Pepper. I don't have it very often, so it's a rare treat! I puzzled over this during lunch. My dear friend was laughing at me as I tried to figure this whole thing out. Who in the world??
Later, as I was looking at all the pictures of the graduates who would be graduating that afternoon, another runner came up and said, "I'm supposed to give this to you," It was another napkin note. I asked her who it was from, and she said she couldn't say.
At this point I thought I was going to go crazy! I really wanted to know who was doing this. I figured it had to be a friend, but I just didn't know who!
Finally, the culprits were revealed. Two of my good friends had pulled the whole thing off... Rachelle and Kelsey! They planned everything out, delivered the notes, got runners to do the little things for them, etc. It was totally awesome. And you know what? It really made my day. Not only did it add some interest to the rather slow day, but it really made me happy to think that they did that for me. I was totally floored. It was a blast hearing about how they pulled everything off!! I was completely clueless!!! =D
And then, my dear friend Sarah (who I lovingly call my 'conscience'- since she and I share names) was the one who got me the journal! =) So very sweet!!!! =D
So, thank you my lovely friends! Y'all are amazing and awesome! =) Now I just have to try to top it off next year!! =D =D

Stripes 'n Dots
Hello ladies! I'm so excited to post the very first outfit of our fashion show! Today's theme is Stripes 'n Dots. I chose to wear stripes for today, and so did Samantha. My reason was that I don't have anything dotted. :-( Sad, I know, but I plan on remedying that soon. ;-)
First, I must confess that my pictures are extremely lame. I didn't have time to put on my outfit and model it for pictures. In fact, this post is being written Sunday evening. By the time y'all are reading this, I'll be busy working my last day at the fair (woo hoo!!!!). I'm very glad to be done with that, but I've also been grateful for the opportunity to make some money for publishing my books. God has been so good to me on this whole thing.
So, I beg pardon for the horrific pictures of my outfit. However, I hope you will pardon me this once, as I promise not to do it again. :-)

Denim Skirt: Thrift store. I've almost worn this one through. I'm definitely drafting a pattern for it.

Happy Independence Day!
Hello! I just wanted to drop in to wish everyone a very happy 4th of July!! (even though we should technically be celebrating on the 3rd!)
Today's plans include going over to my Great-Aunt and Uncles to have hamburgers and play some games. It is tradition, actually. :-) Unfortunately we won't be able to have any fireworks because of the drought that we are in, but that's alright. It isn't about the fireworks anyway, right? ;-)
Another tradition that we seemed to have started was getting together with another family on the 3rd. We were laughing that we always get together on the 3rd (since both the dads are off from work so they can stay super late!), so we decided that we should just make it tradition. ;-) My friend and I had a photo shoot (I might share some pictures with y'all.... ;-), then we learned some new dances for a dance that's coming up (my sister and I are calling it, so we were trying to learn some new ones!), and then did our own "America's Got Talent" show! It was lots of fun. After that, we got our cardio workout by sneaking around in the dark trying to find the other team before they find you. (yes, our hearts were pounding through the entire thing!) Whew, it gets kind of creepy out there! especially when the coyotes start howling (and they were very close last night!). In any case, we had lots of laughs and good fellowship. :-)
Any way, We had a blast, enjoyed sleeping in after our late night, and are looking forward to the evening with family!
Do you any of you have any fun traditions for the holiday?
Also, thanks so much to those who voted on the poll I had up. The results were kind of surprising, but I am looking forward to putting up some of those posts for y'all. :-)

Just Because it's too Cute!
My dear friend, Samantha, over at Simple Delights, has the most adorable Etsy shop ever-all the way from her cute and welcoming header, all the way down to her little veggie miniatures. And, just because I like her things so much, I had to do another post about it. She's added some new things that you have got to check out! It makes me feel 'spring-y'. Because Springs around here are pretty miserable (the wind blows ALL the time), I have to get my 'spring' feeling on by looking at pretty stuff in stores or on the internet. :-) Samantha's shop, Emariecreations, is one of the places I go (but not just for Spring!) Plus, I love the way the pictures look in her shop. The pretty jewelry against delicate china plates. Totally sets the scene! Or, the book, which makes it feel charmingly rustic.
These earrings complete the look if you wore them with the necklace above. The purple color is SO pretty! I have just the shirt that I could wear with these.... ;-)
Again, an adorable set! Mum ring, necklace, and bobby pins! She even has earrings. This would definitely set you up for your spring ensemble that you could wear to parties, get-togethers, and church.

..and they come in so many delicious colors. :-)

Drama, The Wintons, a Surprise Visit, and a Bunch of Random Stuff
First Topic: Drama!!
Oh, the exciting life with all the drama!!.... not. Actually, it's about our Drama group, though I suppose that all of you got that.
Any how, I am extremely happy about the play that we are doing this semester. It is a comedy called "Hollywood Hillbillies". Very funny and very reminiscent of our first one. We were going to try doing some actual dramas, but our audience loves the comedies. And, as one gentleman put it, "we have enough drama in our lives that we don't need to watch it..". I agree! It's a great thing for families to get together and go to an event that each member will enjoy, and they will laugh and talk about later.
There are three types of characters: Your average Joe, Hollywood snooty people, and hillbillies. I get to be a hillbilly. Frankly, I don't have to do a whole lot of acting to do my part. ;-)
Here are a few pictures from Tuesday at Drama practice.
So, after drama, we went to a friends house (their girls are in the drama group) and hung out, had dinner, etc. We girls started recording another radio drama and had a blast. Then, we all loaded up and went to see the Wintons in Concert! If no one has heard of the Wintons, they are an amazing Bluegrass Music group. It is the father and his two sons. They. Were. Amazing! I love bluegrass music any way where you can hear the banjo, guitar, mandolin, Dobro, etc. It's especially fun when you add a fiddle.. but I'm partial there. In any case, this was truly spectacular. I really enjoyed it. I did get a couple of videos of them playing, but as blogger still doesn't like it when I upload videos, I won't be able to share them at this time. The one song I did not video, and I am extremely bummed that I didn't, was when the boys did Dueling Banjos. That is my ultimate favorite bluegrass song, and probably one that every bluegrass player knows. Cody and Jessie, however, did an amazing twist with it that was totally enjoyable. They had lots of fun doing it, and you could tell. So, I am SOOOOO bummed that I didn't get it recorded!! I ended up getting so excited that they were playing it (and dedicated it to me, I might add!) that I totally forgot to record! *slaps forehead*. And, you ask, how in the world did they dedicate it to me? Well, it was actually my mom and myself. They asked the audience (which wasn't that big, I might add) who had heard of dueling banjos. Mom and I were the only ones that nodded or whatever. So, they said they dedicated it to us. ;-) Any how, it was fun. Perhaps another time I will get to record it as I hope to go to another one of their concerts if they are ever in the area. :-)
A few pictures... Sorry they are kind of blurry. I turned the flash off because the flash is extremely bright.. and I didn't want to be drawing attention to myself in the middle of the song!
Cody plays the banjo and Dobro. Jessie plays the mandolin and guitar. Both of them are state champions (maybe world.. can't remember) for picking. They can pick those instruments faster 'n anyone I've ever seen! It's really neat, especially since they're only 19 and 17.
The Surprise visit!!! Oh this was neat. We are getting ready for church one morning (it was at our house) when my brother calls down the hall that one of the families was here. We were still getting dressed and, obviously, freaked out. Turns out he was just kidding. Well, ten minutes later, he says, "Oh. Someone is here..." Becs and I were in the bedroom finishing up. I told her that they were kidding. My mom kind of shrieked or something, so I thought they were just being super dramatic trying to tease us.. and then I heard another woman's voice. I stepped out into the hallway and there were some very dear friends of ours! They had moved to Alaska and we hadn't seen them in 2 years from the last time they visited. This was a SUPER huge surprise!! We were so excited. Their daughters are off at college, so Becs and I weren't able to see them. But, Mr. and Mrs. V were here and their son as well. It was just so nice to see them again! We were totally surprised. :-) We'll get to see them again this coming Sunday as they plan on joining us for church again.
My random part of the post is boring. I haven't been doing a whole lot. Some school, but mostly been lazy as I've had this lingering cough from my strep that just. Won't. Go. Away. Extremely frustrating because I don't sleep well, which means I'm tired throughout the day. That's pretty much why I haven't been accomplishing a whole lot.
Josh and I are going to be entering our home school convention Showcase with a comedy skit from the Smothers Brothers. Our Home school convention has one night where you can bring the whole family for free. We do the showcase (home school students can play instruments, sing, etc. They just enter and wait to find out if they got picked or not), this year a choir will be coming and singing several songs, and then we have a speaker who gives a talk. It's a very fun night and interesting as well. Last year our speaker was a gentleman by the name of Emir Caner. Some of you may have heard of him, or may have had the enjoyment of hearing him speak. For those of you who don't know, Mr. Caner was a Muslim who turned to Christianity. His talks are really neat to hear and I really enjoy listening to them.
Any how, I suppose that's about all. I could get to rambling some more, but I'm sure you really don't want to hear that. ;-)

So, after drama, we went to a friends house (their girls are in the drama group) and hung out, had dinner, etc. We girls started recording another radio drama and had a blast. Then, we all loaded up and went to see the Wintons in Concert! If no one has heard of the Wintons, they are an amazing Bluegrass Music group. It is the father and his two sons. They. Were. Amazing! I love bluegrass music any way where you can hear the banjo, guitar, mandolin, Dobro, etc. It's especially fun when you add a fiddle.. but I'm partial there. In any case, this was truly spectacular. I really enjoyed it. I did get a couple of videos of them playing, but as blogger still doesn't like it when I upload videos, I won't be able to share them at this time. The one song I did not video, and I am extremely bummed that I didn't, was when the boys did Dueling Banjos. That is my ultimate favorite bluegrass song, and probably one that every bluegrass player knows. Cody and Jessie, however, did an amazing twist with it that was totally enjoyable. They had lots of fun doing it, and you could tell. So, I am SOOOOO bummed that I didn't get it recorded!! I ended up getting so excited that they were playing it (and dedicated it to me, I might add!) that I totally forgot to record! *slaps forehead*. And, you ask, how in the world did they dedicate it to me? Well, it was actually my mom and myself. They asked the audience (which wasn't that big, I might add) who had heard of dueling banjos. Mom and I were the only ones that nodded or whatever. So, they said they dedicated it to us. ;-) Any how, it was fun. Perhaps another time I will get to record it as I hope to go to another one of their concerts if they are ever in the area. :-)

Cody plays the banjo and Dobro. Jessie plays the mandolin and guitar. Both of them are state champions (maybe world.. can't remember) for picking. They can pick those instruments faster 'n anyone I've ever seen! It's really neat, especially since they're only 19 and 17.
The Surprise visit!!! Oh this was neat. We are getting ready for church one morning (it was at our house) when my brother calls down the hall that one of the families was here. We were still getting dressed and, obviously, freaked out. Turns out he was just kidding. Well, ten minutes later, he says, "Oh. Someone is here..." Becs and I were in the bedroom finishing up. I told her that they were kidding. My mom kind of shrieked or something, so I thought they were just being super dramatic trying to tease us.. and then I heard another woman's voice. I stepped out into the hallway and there were some very dear friends of ours! They had moved to Alaska and we hadn't seen them in 2 years from the last time they visited. This was a SUPER huge surprise!! We were so excited. Their daughters are off at college, so Becs and I weren't able to see them. But, Mr. and Mrs. V were here and their son as well. It was just so nice to see them again! We were totally surprised. :-) We'll get to see them again this coming Sunday as they plan on joining us for church again.
My random part of the post is boring. I haven't been doing a whole lot. Some school, but mostly been lazy as I've had this lingering cough from my strep that just. Won't. Go. Away. Extremely frustrating because I don't sleep well, which means I'm tired throughout the day. That's pretty much why I haven't been accomplishing a whole lot.
Josh and I are going to be entering our home school convention Showcase with a comedy skit from the Smothers Brothers. Our Home school convention has one night where you can bring the whole family for free. We do the showcase (home school students can play instruments, sing, etc. They just enter and wait to find out if they got picked or not), this year a choir will be coming and singing several songs, and then we have a speaker who gives a talk. It's a very fun night and interesting as well. Last year our speaker was a gentleman by the name of Emir Caner. Some of you may have heard of him, or may have had the enjoyment of hearing him speak. For those of you who don't know, Mr. Caner was a Muslim who turned to Christianity. His talks are really neat to hear and I really enjoy listening to them.
Any how, I suppose that's about all. I could get to rambling some more, but I'm sure you really don't want to hear that. ;-)
